May 5, 2006 Timbers 1, Whitecaps 1 PORTLAND, Ore. - Chad Bartlomé scored a goal in his debut and Josh Saunders made several key saves to lead the Portland Timbers to a 1-1 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps at PGE Park. Bartlomé, who had officially joined the team earlier in the afternoon, put the Timbers ahead in the 21st minute when midfielder Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar brought the ball into the center of the field and launched a blistering shot from the edge of the area. Gutierrez put the Timbers in front in the 31st minute after striker Chad Bartlomé was taken down by Brett Branan in the penalty box. June 2, 2006 Timbers 0, Sounders 0 SEATTLE - Josh Saunders recorded his second consecutive shutout and the Portland Timbers tied the Seattle Sounders 0-0 at Qwest Field. Saunders made two crucial saves in the first half to preserve the shutout. Midfielder Oral Bullen almost scored a late winner for the Timbers after Mamba Chisoni brought the ball down the left flank. Chisoni’s cross into the box found Bullen at the far post, but Bullen’s diving header sailed up and over the bar. RECORD: 3-4-2 (11 points)

Referee Colin Arblaster wasted no time pointing to the penalty spot, and Sandoval froze goalkeeper Josh Saunders in his tracks and coolly slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner for the 1-0 win. July 8, 2006 Timbers 1, Coventry City 1 (Exhibition) PORTLAND, Ore. - Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar converted a penalty kick and scored again in a shootout to lead the Portland Timbers past English team Coventry City 4-3 on penalty kicks in front of 10,985 fans at PGE Park. After finishing 90 minutes knotted at 1-1, the Timbers emerged as victors by converting all four of their penalty kicks they faced. Coventry’s players missed their final two attempts to seal the victory for Portland.
July 12, 2006 Battery 3, Timbers 1 (U.S. Open Cup CHARLESTON, S.C. - Ben Hollingsworth scored twice as the Charleston Battery came from behind to beat the Portland Timbers 3-1 in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Blackbaud Stadium. The Timbers jumped out to an early lead when Mamba Chisoni brought the ball down the left flank in the fifth minute. Chisoni crossed the ball to his opposite foot and brought the ball up towards the penalty area before crossing it to the far post where Luke Kreamalmeyer was waiting to blast the volley into the back of the net and put the Timbers up 1-0.
