Career Summary

A veteran of five MLS seasons, McKenzie joins the Timbers after making a career-high 20 appearances for Chivas USA during the 2012 season. Originally drafted by the Kansas City Wizards in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft out of Michigan State, McKenzie has also played for Kansas City (2008-09), Real Salt Lake (2010-11) during his MLS career.

2011: Made two MLS appearances (both starts) in his second season with Real Salt Lake, recording 180 minutes … Contributed to an early season 2-0 road win over the New England Revolution on April 9 … Played all 90 minutes of a 2-0 win over the Wilmington Hammerheads in a third-round match of the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 28 at Rio Tinto Stadium … Featured in all 10 games and played all 900 minutes for the Real Salt Lake Reserves in the 2011 MLS Reserve League. 

2010: Played in four regular-season matches (2 starts) for Real Salt Lake … Saw action in a pair of MLS U.S. Open Cup play-in matches against the San Jose Earthquakes on April 14 (3-3 draw; advanced 5-3 on PKs) and D.C. United on June 2 (2-1 loss), logging 210 minutes … Played in two games during the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League, contributing to RSL’s run to the final against Mexican side Monterrey … Played all 90 minutes of a thrilling 5-4 loss to Mexico’s Cruz Azul on Aug. 25 at Estadio Azul in Mexico City … Went the full 90 in the return leg against Cruz Azul on Oct. 19, aiding in a 3-1 win at Rio Tinto Stadium.

2009: Made his MLS debut July 4, 2009, starting in Kansas City’s 1-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo at Community America Ballpark … Started five games for the Wizards, logging 437 minutes during the regular season.

2008: Selected in the fourth round (53rd overall) in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by the Kansas City Wizards … Did not make an appearance in league play. 

COLLEGE: Earned first-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior at Michigan State in 2007…Advanced to the NCAA Tournament with the Spartans as a senior in 2007, and as a freshman in 2004…Assisted on the game-winning goal in the Spartan’s 1-0 win over Northwestern in the 2004 Big Ten Championship Game, giving the program their first-ever Big Ten Tournament title…Named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2004…Started the last 72 matches of his Michigan State career, starting with the final 12 matches of his freshman season…Anchored a Spartan defense that averaged less than 0.9 goals allowed per game in each of his last three seasons (0.83 as a sophomore in 2005, 0.75 as a junior in 2006 and 0.86 as a senior in 2007).
 
PERSONAL: Majored in criminal justice while at Michigan State … As a youth, played for the Illinois ODP team from 1999-2002, helping lead the team to four consecutive ODP Region II championships and a fourth-place finish in the 2002 National ODP Championship tournament … Played three seasons in the Premier Development League between collegiate seasons at Michigan State, playing two seasons with the Michigan Bucks (2005-06) and one with the Chicago Fire Premier (2007).
