Timbers U-23s to conduct tryout in March


PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers U-23s will conduct a two-day, invitation-only tryout on March 28-29 at Lincoln High School as they seek talent for their inaugural season in the Premier Development League.
 
The Timbers U-23s invite-only tryout is open to all players 18 years of age and older. The cost to participate is $50. Space is limited.
 
Players interested in participating in the Timbers U-23s tryout must apply for a spot in the trial by submitting a resume and registration form to Nick Mansueto, director of soccer operations, at nmansueto@pgepark.com. The deadline for submitting applications is March 20.
 
Resumes must include contact information, playing history, preferred position(s), vital statistics, coaching references and any additional information such as awards or accolades.
 
The tryout will consist of small-sided and full-field games and scrimmages. All players will participate in the first day of tryout activities on Saturday, March 28. The second day, on Sunday, March 29, will be a call-back day for specially selected players.
 
As an amateur team, the Timbers U-23s serves as a developmental squad for the Timbers first team, which competes in the USL First Division. The Timbers U-23s play a 16-game season from May through July in the Northwest Division of the PDL’s Western Conference. The PDL is North America’s top amateur league for players 23 years of age and younger and serves as a developing ground for elite and up-and-coming players.

2009 TIMBERS U-23s TRYOUT DETAILS:
Dates: March 28-29
Time: March 28: 12-5 p.m. (Check-in begins at 11 a.m.); March 29: TBA
Location: Lincoln High School, 1600 SW Salmon St., Portland, OR 97205
Fees: $50 paid in advance. Cash, money order or credit cards will be accepted.
Other details: Participants MUST bring their own soccer equipment, including appropriate shoes (turf, jogging, cleats, etc.), shin guards and other soccer apparel. Each player must bring / wear a white t-shirt to all trial activities. Lincoln High School has a FieldTurf playing surface.
