CenturyLink Man of the Match @ New York: Troy Perkins
The Portland Timbers stumbled on the road Saturday in a 2-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. After going down a goal in the 21st minute, Portland fought for the equalizer, even hitting the crossbar twice in a matter of seconds in the 57th minute. A controversial hand ball in the penalty box led to a red card for Timbers midfielder Kalif Alhassan and a penalty kick goal for New York's Luke Rodgers all but sealed the win for New York in the 66th minute. The Timbers loss drops the team into 12th place in the standings as NY now holds the 10th and final playoff spot with a two-point cushion ahead of Portland.
Timbers goalkeeper Troy Perkins made six saves, one shy of his season-high mark of seven, including several to keep the match a one-goal affair as Portland tried to find the equalizer. With 85 percent of the vote, Troy Perkins is the CenturyLink Man of the Match versus New York.
