Timbers' Heinzen out for season
PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Timbers defender Aaron Heinzen will miss the remainder of the season after an MRI on his left ankle revealed a dead bone chip that will require surgery in the coming week.
Timbers athletic trainer Tony Guyette estimates Heinzen will be held out of contact for three months following the surgery.
Heinzen, 24, started in 13 games this season, logging 1,146 minutes and collecting an assist before suffering the ankle injury on July 8 against Edmonton at PGE Park.
A second-year member of the club, Heinzen played in all but one match during his rookie 2003 season in Portland.
